ARTICLE SUMMARY

Abstract

The greater the number of people living in cities, and increasingly rapid is the process of urbanization then it follows that writ large are the challenges facing all levels of governance to deliver efficient, sustainable and liveable urban infrastructure. This paper examines integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for smart cities, specifically applications in energy management, traffic optimization and environmental monitoring. This paper presents a framework to realize such scalable and adaptive urban solutions combining urban planning, data analytics, and IoT systems. We assess, through a mixed-methods approach using case studies and simulations, the potential effects of IoT- driven innovations on urban performance metrics (e.g., energy consumption, traffic flow or air quality). The results show substantial improvements in resource efficiency and citizen satisfaction, indicating the transformative potential of IoT for urban ecosystems. This work adds to the field of smart city technologies and provides insights for policymakers and technologists.
